Upcoming shows: Softer World: Art by Laura Berger Nov. 3rd
Chicago-based artist Laura Berger will be exhibiting new acrylic and gouache works in her upcoming show “Softer World” on Nov. 3rd at Artists Republic Gallery in Laguna Beach, CA. Her show will focus on creating an escape from the current violence currently surrounding the world today. Her works are visually appealing with figurative imagery and minimalistic environments.
Elementary students at Bridge Farm Primary School in Bristol recently renamed one of their houses after the artist Banksy. News got out and Banksy himself created a mural thanking the kids and left a awesome note. I love when artists and famous types reach out and inspire the youth. Good on you Banksy.
Artist (and Boing Boing favorite) Molly Crabapple is just as clever with crowdfunding as she is with a Sharpie. For her 28th birthday, she Kickstartered the budget for a week locked in a NYC hotel suite whose every surface was covered with drawing paper. She spent the resulting “week in hell” drawing over every inch of that paper. The art she produced is documented in Week in Hell, a lovely slim volume from IDW, which features spiffy photos of Crabapple’s work, some notes on the production, and a hell of an introduction by Mr Warren Ellis. It’s a great look inside an utterly gonzo project.
The illustrative inky goodness of artist Mel Kadel’s works always captures a feeling, a mood, and all meticulously and beautiful done. Here’s some of her latest pieces on her signature coffee-stained paper, which she does herself.
